Ways to Give

Your support helps defend youth rights across California. Together we are building and training a statewide defense coalition that challenges injustices, drives policy change, and champions community.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, CYDC is grateful for you. We rely on donations to provide training, practice materials, litigation support, policy advocacy, and support for our staff. Although we are able to support some through foundation and government grants, donations enable us to provide unrestricted work in support of our most vulnerable youth and allow us to grow as an organization.

CYDC accepts cash, check, and electronic donations in any amount.

  • Checks should be made out to ‘California Youth Defender Center’
  • To send contributions via mail please email us at info@cayouthdefenders.org
  • Electronic donations are accepted via this online form

Many employers encourage their employees to give to charitable nonprofits and some will match those efforts with dollars and other means of support.  The options that can benefit CYDC include employee matching gifts and donations through payroll deductions, such as the United Way’s workplace donation campaigns.

If you are interested in donating through the United Way, please contact us for assistance since some United Way chapters, such as the Bay Area United Way, include our organization while others may not.

Employee Matching Gifts are donations an employer makes to match its employees’ charitable contributions, often dollar-for-dollar. Some employers will give double or even triple the original donation.

Donations through Payroll Deductions can also be set up for employees who wish to effortlessly donate to a worthy cause.

In any case, please check with your employer to see if you can support CYDC through workplace giving!

Support our mission with a grant from your Donor Advised Fund (DAF). You will need to initiate this donation from your DAF account, please fill out the form below to help us confirm we have received it.

Those aged 73+ must take RMDs (Required Minimum Distributions) from their retirement accounts like IRAs or IRA rollovers. These distributions count as taxable income. But giving directly from your IRA or IRA rollover to a nonprofit does not count as income and reduces your RMD. Even though RMDs don’t start until 73, direct donations from your IRA or IRA rollover are allowed starting at age 70½, regardless of RMDs. This earned income is never taxed when you donate it to Charter Oak. You can give up to $100,000 per year this way. Please consult your tax advisor.

CYDC invites all law firms to consider becoming event sponsors. Your firm will receive public recognition throughout the year and help underwrite our Annual Roundtable meeting, our largest event of the year.

Please contact us at info@cayouthdefenders.org if interested.
